About Our School

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, Chandigarh (GMSSS-16) stands as a beacon of quality education in the region. Founded in 1975 under the visionary initiative of the Chandigarh Administration, the school has consistently evolved to meet the changing educational landscape while holding steadfast to its core values of integrity, discipline, and holistic development.

Our sprawling campus in the heart of Sector 16 provides a conducive environment for learning and growth. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, and offers education from Class I to Class XII with streams in Science, Commerce, and Humanities at the senior secondary level.

Science Stream

A rigorous program in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Prepares students for engineering, medical, and pure science careers. Includes practical lab work, research projects, and Olympiad training.

Commerce Stream

Focuses on Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and Mathematics. Equips students with knowledge for careers in CA, CS, finance, management, and entrepreneurship. Includes financial literacy workshops and visits to commercial institutions.

Humanities Stream

Explores History, Political Science, Geography, Psychology, and Sociology. Develops critical thinking, analytical writing, and a deep understanding of human society and culture. Ideal for careers in law, civil services, social work, and arts.

Primary & Middle School (I-VIII)

Our foundational years follow a theme-based, activity-oriented approach as per the National Education Policy 2020. We focus on literacy, numeracy, environmental awareness, and value education. Special emphasis is given to language skills (English, Hindi, and Punjabi), creative arts, and physical education to ensure all-round development.

Co-curricular Activities

Education at GMSSS-16 extends beyond textbooks. We have active clubs for Robotics, Debate, Eco, Drama, Music (vocal and instrumental), Dance, and Visual Arts. Students participate in inter-school competitions, national-level events, and community service projects like 'Clean Chandigarh' and 'Tree Plantation Drives'.

Admissions 2024-25

Admissions to Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, are conducted as per the guidelines and schedule issued by the Directorate of Education, Chandigarh Administration. The process is transparent, merit-based, and conducted online.

Eligibility Criteria

Class I: Child must be 5+ years as on 31st March 2024. Residence proof of Chandigarh required.
Class XI: Admission is based on Class X CBSE board results and availability of seats in chosen stream (Science, Commerce, Humanities).
Lateral Entry: Limited seats in other classes are subject to vacancy and a written entrance test.
